In the third gallery local artist Keith Vanderwees
offers his audience some abstract renditions of
his private mind’s eye. He’s called the
exhibit “Soul Painting”.
“Keith has been a painter for quite awhile. He
sort of dropped out of the scene for a few years
but obviously he’s been very busy because he’s
got 20 some odd paintings on display,” said
David Karasiewicz. Meantime, the artist stood in
the middle of the room and flashed a sunny smile
as he looked around.
Again, the range of styles and shapes and colours
in these works are broad. A matched set of
paintings in predominantly pastel blue and yellow
and green inspires serenity through the rounded,
complex patterns.
An absolutely gorgeous piece entitled “Palm
Sunday” radiates the deepest hues of sapphires
and emeralds equal to the precious stones
themselves. And then, one wonders what the artist
was feeling or thinking when he created a dark
pair called “The Gollum Heights” and “My
Shield”. Perhaps he was travelling with the
shunned and lonely creature in Tolkien’s Lord of
the Rings?
